Leica Camera AG, Solms has announced the new Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH Lens to succeed the famous Noctilux-M 50mm f/1.0.  Though similar in size, the speed of the lens has increased while offering similar performance to the Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH, when stopped down. To improve upon Summilux ASPH, the new Noctilux reportedly has improved on distortion and vignetting.

The lens design uses eight elements arranged in a double Gauss design symmetrical to the aperture.  Two aspherical lens surfaces, made of the highest Solms factory standards, are used to ensure high imaging performance wide open and at stopped down apertures. To deliver outstanding performance up-close, a floating element is used.

Expected to go on sale at official Leica Dealers in February 2009, with an unspecified list price.  Leave it to the Leica, to keep the lens lust renewed.  Check out their 2 New Summiluxes to be released at Photokina.
